1. About Zippl & acceptance of terms
Zippl is a mobile application for scanning receipts and splitting expenses, operated by Donovan Price trading as Zippl (ABN 63 420 101 424) ("we", "us", or "our"). By downloading, accessing, or using Zippl, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy.
2. Eligibility and minimum age
Zippl is provided for personal, non-commercial use. You must be at least 13 years old to use Zippl. If you are between 13 and 18 years of age, you represent that you have reviewed these terms with your parent or legal guardian and obtained their consent to use the service.
3. Plans and subscriptions
Free Plan: New accounts include 5 receipt scans during your first 14 days, followed by an ongoing allowance of 1 scan per calendar month. Receipts and splits on the Free Plan are stored in your personal iCloud account via Apple CloudKit. Equal (÷ N) bill splitting on previously scanned receipts is available on the free allowance.
Zippl Plus subscription: Zippl Plus is an auto-renewable subscription unlocking high-volume receipt scanning, receipt image backups, itemized QR/link bill splitting, and spending trends. Payment is charged to your Apple ID Account upon purchase confirmation. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours prior to the end of the current billing period. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime via your Apple Account Settings.
4. Fair use & prohibited activity
Zippl and Zippl Plus are designed for individual personal expense tracking. To maintain platform sustainability and security, scanning on Zippl Plus is subject to a fair-use cap of 500 receipt scans per calendar month, alongside automated rate limits.
You agree not to:
- Use Zippl for automated, commercial, or high-volume enterprise scanning operations.
- Bypass or attempt to circumvent scanning limits, API rate limits, or paywalls.
- Access the service using unapproved automated scripts, web scrapers, or bots.
- Decompile, reverse-engineer, probe, or attempt to exploit vulnerabilities in Zippl's mobile application or cloud backend infrastructure.
5. AI receipt parsing & accuracy disclaimer
Receipt data extraction is performed automatically using artificial intelligence models and optical character recognition software. OCR and AI parsing can occasionally misinterpret dates, totals, merchant names, or line items.
User responsibility: You are strictly responsible for reviewing and verifying the accuracy of all extracted receipt data, merchant names, tax amounts, and totals before relying on them for reimbursements, tax filings, or expense allocation. We do not warrant that extraction calculations or payment amounts are error-free.
6. Not financial or tax advice (ATO record-keeping disclaimer)
Zippl is a digital productivity and bill-splitting tool only. It does not provide financial, accounting, legal, or statutory tax advice.
Compliance with ATO guidelines: You remain solely responsible for maintaining complete and accurate records in accordance with requirements set by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) or relevant foreign tax authorities (such as retaining legible tax invoices and original receipts for required statutory periods, typically 5 years). Zippl does not guarantee that scanned images or exported backup files satisfy statutory audit standards set by revenue authorities.
7. User content & intellectual property licence
You retain all ownership rights, copyright, and intellectual property in the receipt images and text data you submit to Zippl.
By uploading receipt images or text, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, limited licence to host, store, process, extract, display, and transmit such content solely to the extent necessary to provide, maintain, and operate the Zippl application for you and your designated split participants.
8. Data retention, backups, and data loss
Zippl provides local export features ("Back Up My Data") enabling you to save copies of your receipt data and images to external storage or iCloud Drive. Maintaining independent external backups of critical records is your responsibility.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss, corruption, or temporary unavailability of receipt images, split records, or account data arising from service outages, cloud backend maintenance, or device loss.
9. Statutory guarantees & Australian Consumer Law (ACL)
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any statutory right, remedy, or guarantee conferred on you by the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) contained in Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) that cannot be lawfully excluded or limited.
If you are a consumer under the ACL, our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded. Subject to those statutory guarantees, Zippl is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Where the law permits us to limit our liability for breach of a non-excludable statutory guarantee, our liability is limited, at our option, to re-supplying the service or paying the cost of having the service supplied again.
10. Governing law & jurisdiction
These Terms of Use are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of New South Wales, Australia. You irrevocably submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales and the Commonwealth of Australia for resolving any dispute arising out of or in connection with these terms.
11. Modifications to terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms of Use as Zippl evolves. Updated versions will be published on our website with an updated "last updated" date. Continued use of Zippl following changes indicates acceptance of the updated terms.
